A brave golden retriever has been declared a family’s "guardian angel" after saving her 11-year-old master from a cougar.
The dog, aptly named Angel, jumped forward to distract the big cat when it charged towards Austin Forman as he was hauling firewood in his family’s back garden in Boston Bar, British Columbia, Canada.
"It was coming after me and Angel intercepted. The cougar grabbed Angel," Austin said.
The boy ran inside the house calling for help, which soon arrived in the form of a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, who was working nearby and was able to rescue the dog by shooting the big cat.
Heroic Angel – who was due to see the vet today (January 4th) – suffered a ripped eyelid, injured sinus cavities and several puncture wounds, but the 18-month-old dog is set to make a full recovery.
"It could have turned out a lot different if it wasn’t for Angel," commented Austin’s mum, Sherri Forman.
