Dogs are the most diverse animal on the earth, no other animal family on the earth is as divers as dogs... There are more then 400 distinct breeds of dogs which vary from looks, size, and weight to their talents...

Everyone knows, and as it’s rightly said so, dogs are man's best friends and a fine animal. One should keep dogs.

To begin with, let us give you a little idea about dogs and their appearance…

Originally evolved from wolfs centuries ago, dogs today are the most varied animal on earth. No animal family on earth, wild or domestic is as diverse as dogs. The credit for this mainly goes to humans and their breeding programs since centuries (go to ‘dog’s history’ to know more about the origins of dogs and their history).

Ever since we discovered the power of breeding we have bred dogs, and wide range of other animals as well, to achieve what we call a tailor made breed to suite many of our specific requirements, to name few, habitat, working requirements, expertise and above all looks… Humans have created more then 400 distinct breeds ever since...

The Standard weight of different breeds of dogs range from 70kg of Saint Bernard, the heaviest dog by standard, to just 2.5kg of Chihuahua, the smallest dog by standard, they are also equally diverse in height and size, for instance, the tallest breed in the world by standards (Irish Wolf Hound) stands at 34 inches at shoulder height in comparison to the smallest breed in the world by stands (Chihuahua) which stands at only between 6 – 9 inches.

But it’s not only the size, height and weight that make dogs so diverse, it’s also the appearance, Characteristics, habitat and their talents that vary widely. This was simplified by few scientists since early 17th century in difference breed groups, such as, Gun Dogs, Hounds, terriers and toy dogs and later also into utility dogs (Working dogs).

Although the breed groups are well specified the dogs in each groups looks, behaves and have quite diverse talents (To learn more about this please visit our 'dog breeds' section)..
